Year 02:56
Year You were having a good year with minimal incidents. Low sanctuary bliss, aperol spritz, kept dirt under your finger nails because you like them that way. Didn’t you say he had a kid? I could’ve sworn. No anthems, no landing strips here, and no surprise visits from friends. Don’t you like it that way? Are you coming home soon? I could never quite see the face in the moon, but I believe everyone who does. I could never quite see the face in the moon, but I believe everyone, oh I’ll believe anyone.
2.
Dandelions 02:59
Dandelions Dandelion wine, cross-eyed drunk all that summer time. You got the giggles by the carboy and I said I heard this stuff’ll make you blind, and you say no, no. no, no no no. I took a real nice picture of your friends and lovers leaning pretty out the window in the city that night. And Laura cut up a watermelon, and we ate it in bed and we stained the covers. I said I heard this stuff’ll make you blind, and you say no, no. no, no no no. Then you said come here honey, I think they’re something in your teeth. If you’re still looking to play I’ve got some strings on me and I can stand up straight, I can stand up straight, I am wide, I’m hollow and I resonate. I said I heard this stuff’ll make you blind, and you say no, no. no, no no no.
3.
Kettle 02:43
Kettle Try not to leave the kettle on. I’m going outside. I think another chicken’s loose; neighbors called the cops last time and I don’t want them stopping by. I can’t leave these things alone. Ask Danny for a ride— if his pickup’s still in shape. Carburetor went this time last year. I know why you’d want to leave this town. But give it some more time, and I still think that you might come back around.
4.
Job 02:09
Job It’s 110 degrees out and you’re cutting your own hair, on a fuck-it kinda Sunday in the Windy City. Listen out the window and the neighbor’s singing Patsy Kline in a tomcat voice. A guy who hedges his bets, makes responsible choices, and you step out on the porch when you get to the scalp. He takes a sip from the hose and he leans on the house, he says How are you gonna get a job, looking like that? Well I got a tattoo of a pentagram and you got a tattoo of a skeleton house and I got a tattoo of an open window and you got a piercing on the side of your mouth and my parents don’t really like you, in the same way they don’t like me. We’re gonna have to figure out some other way that we can get what we need. They say, How are you gonna get a job, looking like that?
5.
Whistle 02:12
Whistle Keep whistling, and hope that the rain dies out. Big sister, I could hear you shouting from the car, and I was hoping you would let it out. I’ve been there too. Move quicker through all of your days this year. Hard water: hold your nose and drink fast as you can. It feels like time is gone quicker, I can’t keep up with anyone.
6.
Dancer 04:27
Dancer Julia, I am a dancer now. I dip, and then I bow. Dip, then I bow. My grandfather still asks me if I’m calling you enough. My grandfather still asks me if I’m calling you in India. And I wonder if I should tell him it’s been a long time since we broke up. Julia, I am a dancer now. I dip, and then I bow. Dip, then I bow.
7.
Rainy 02:24
Rainy I’ve got rainy days that drag me around. There is a pile of fur along the avenue by my bus stop, staring back at me. Night walk past the park, corner store, attendant knows me like a feral dog you leave leftovers out on the back porch to feed. Mornings on the mend, cherry stems, dawn has broken. I’m forgetting what knots have been tied, and with what tongues. I’ve got rainy days, lock me down, there is a file at a doctor’s in this city with a note that says it’s raining for me.

about

SNYDER HILL SESSIONS

In January of 2020 I was fortunate to reunite with my band, Mega Flora, in Ithaca. It was the first time I’d seen them since moving to Raleigh in August of 2019. Bri was moving out of Ithaca later that week, so we set up drums and amps in their empty house to record our work from the prior summer. As a band we’d played less than a dozen shows, but I’m immensely proud of the music we made. It’s the result of over a year of songwriting and working with some of my very best friends, the most talented musicians I know.

We’re calling this a “live EP”. At 7 songs it’s about 20 minutes long. In some of these tracks we’re re-learning on the fly, but the moments where we stop to laugh are my favorites. So a huge thanks to Ali, Tara, Bri, Bobby, and Mike for their musicianship, to Eve for drawing the beautiful cover art, and an extra thanks to Bobby for recording and mastering these tracks.

A lot of us have been affected by COVID-related layoffs, and so while we were initially going to put this up for free, we are requesting $5 to support the band. Still, if you are income-compromised in any way, please please just download it for free. We’re much more concerned with sharing our art than anything else.
